APRIL 2025 NEWSLETTER
Lake Louisa State Park March 16-23, 2025
Hello SF Solo campers,
We just finished another great campout at Lake Louisa. A big shout out to Mary Ann and Linda
Gardner for putting on a great event. Unfortunately for me it was one thing after another. The biggest
being a trip to the emergency room for six staples in my head. I might need to invest in some pool
noodles for my slide. Luckily for me, and others can attest to this, I have a very hard head. Brain
concussion #11. Our next campout is rapidly approaching. The dates are a little different because of
Easter. April 22nd to April 29th we will be at Paradise RV Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Tuesday to
Tuesday. If you haven't made your reservations yet do so now. This will be a great campout at a "resort"
campground. We seldom get a chance for this on the east coast because of the expense. Nancy Gagne
has put a full list of adventures together for us. An itinerary will be coming out shortly. May will see us
in the Keys at Bahia Honda State Park. This was a very hard campground to get reservations for. Only
four of us got in. An additional two are at the State Park just north of there at Curry Hammock and one
will be at a private campground just to the south. Seven total so far. We will have several vehicles to
get people around. If you want to go, keep trying.
That brings me to my last point. Every campout the same question is raised, especially by the
campout host. Who is coming, how many. We have a tool to answer this question. On Facebook, go to
the event and mark that you are going. If you don't do Facebook or are uncomfortable about posting
your whereabouts, email me. Please don't text this information to me because it is hard for me to
remember something possibly 11 months down the road. As you might ascertain from the opening
paragraph, after 11 brain concussions the gears aren't moving as well as they used to. Facebook is the
best bet; emails I can put in a folder.
Hope to see you at Paradise

February 16-23, 2025 Myakka State Park
We just finished another wonderful campout at Myakka River State Park. Our next campout is coming up at Lake Louisa State Park. If you have been unable to get your reservations, keep trying. Most are in Loop C, but as with all Florida State Parks, take what you can get. The dates are March 16th to the 23rd, Sunday to Sunday. Mary Ann and Linda Gardner are putting together a great campout for us. Bring your Irish garb. Our next reservation window is coming up during this campout. March 22nd you need to make reservations for Hardee Lakes. The dates of the campout are March 15th to the 22nd, 2026, Sunday to Sunday. This is a very hard campground to get into. Us "Oldtimers" tried before with no luck. We have better information this time so keep your fingers crossed. As you have probably noticed the reservation window is a little different than what we are used to. It is twelve months from your departure date. There are three different ways to reserve. The best is the county website, hardeecountyfl.gov. You may also use Reserve America, but they charge you an admin fee. You can also call the office at 863-767-1100. March 22nd is a Saturday so calling might not be such a good idea. I talked to the office about when actually the reserve window opens and did not get a very good answer. Standard would be 8 in the morning, but the office worker thought it was midnight. I will do an experiment and let you know with my next reminder. Good Luck.
Hope to see you at Lake Louisa
