Hillsborough River State Park provides many opportunities for outdoor recreation. From fishing in the Hillsborough River to hiking or biking on the trails or picnicking under pavilions built in the 1930s, there is something for everyone here.
Besides enjoying a living history lesson, visitors can view Class II river rapids, which are rare in Florida, and canoe or kayak along the scenic Hillsborough River.

This 84.5-acre conservation area and urban district river park on an island in the Indian River Lagoon is near the Sebastian Inlet marine ecosystems and the Atlantic Ocean. It features campsites along the shoreline for convenient fishing, a motorized boat ramp, small fishing dock and fish cleaning station. Adjacent to the camping area and connected by a bridge, Scout Island offers primitive camping at a reasonable group rate and more than a mile of nature trails.

South Bay RV Campground is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Located in South-Central Florida in the heart of sugar cane country, the campground serves as the perfect layover spot for visitors passing through or a wonderful vacation alternative to Florida’s bustling coastal areas.
This peaceful RV park is nestled at the base of the levee on the southeast shore of Lake Okeechobee. This picturesque setting provides habitat for many of Florida’s native plants and animals including many endangered species. Fishermen and boaters enjoy easy access to Lake Okeechobee by using the boat ramp located across the street from the campground. Well-known for its natural spring which flows year-round, cool, clean water into the Alafia River, the Lithia Springs Park was originally purchased by Gardinier, Inc., a mining company that soon became Mosaic Phosphate, Inc. When the company leased the park to Hillsborough County as a recreational area in 1957, the 160-acre site slowly became a popular camping spot.
After setting up camp, hikers can explore the woodsy trails and its diverse plant communities, river cypress swamps, and hardwood hammocks. But it is the natural spring that serves as the park’s major attraction, which---courtesy of the water’s 72 degree temperature---provides an excellent swimming experience all year long. In addition to swimming, visitors can fish and play volleyball.
There are also a benches and picnic tables near the playground for the parents to rest and chat, while their kids can play at the park.

Sixteen distinct natural communities create the mosaic that is Jonathan Dickinson, the largest state park in Southeast Florida.
Rare environments such as coastal sand hills, upland lakes and scrub forests as well as the pristine Loxahatchee River make this park a unique spot to explore on land or by water.
Historical interests include a secret World War II training camp, the story of the shipwrecked Quaker merchant who is the park’s namesake, and Trapper Nelson, the legendary Wild Man of the Loxahatchee.
Ranger-guided tours of Trapper Nelson’s 1930s pioneer homestead are available year-round. Visitors can enjoy paved and off-road biking, equestrian and hiking trails. Boating, canoeing and kayaking along the river are also great ways to enjoy the park. Anglers can fish along the riverbank or from a boat.
The nature and history of the park come to life through exhibits and displays in the Elsa Kimbell Environmental Education and Research Center. Programs for kids or the whole family are also offered here.

White-tailed deer, bald eagles, sandhill cranes, turkeys and bobcats have been seen in the park, located on the shores of lakes Kissimmee, Tiger and Rosalie.Visitors enjoy boating, canoeing and fishing in the picturesque lakes. Nature students can hike over 13 miles of trails to observe and study the abundant plant and animal life.Six miles of trails are open to equestrians. A large, shaded picnic area with pavilions is available.The park has full-facility campsites as well as a primitive camping facility. The youth camping area can accommodate up to 50 people. The dark skies make stargazing a popular nighttime activity for campers. The park is located off State Road 60, 15 miles east of Lake Wales.

The natural theme park of Lake Louisa State Park showcases a diversity of wildlife, including deer, bobcat, gopher tortoises, fox squirrel and flighted creatures like bald eagles and osprey.
The park is home to 11 distinct natural plant communities and lies within the eastern boundary of the Green Swamp Area of Critical State Concern and the northern boundary of the Lake Wales Ridge.
The park’s three major lakes, Louisa, Hammond and Dixie, transform idle observers into active participants with opportunities for canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding. Bicycling is popular on the park’s seven miles of paved roads over rolling hills and on the 20 miles of unpaved multi-use trails.

A hidden gem surrounded by housing developments and major highways, Oscar Scherer plays an invaluable role in the preservation of Florida scrub-jay habitat. Bald eagles nest here in the winter, and in the summer, Lake Osprey attracts anglers and swimmers.
South Creek attracts anglers, canoers and kayakers.
With 15 miles of trails, this park provides solitude, beauty, challenge and a healthy adventure for everyone. Oscar Sherer is a popular stopover for bicyclists and walkers on the Legacy Trail, making this an important place for the surrounding community and a worthwhile stop for travelers.
Holder Mine

When trailering or traveling by two-wheel drive, only access Holder Mine Campground from C-581/Pleasant Grove Road and Forest Road or Trail 10 on the Citrus Tract. Do not follow any other routes suggested by Google Earth, Map Quest, GPS Units, etc.
The Holder Mine Campground is located within the Holder Mine Recreation Area, in the Citrus Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest (Citrus County), less than 15 minutes south of Inverness, FL. The campsites are shaded by live and turkey oak trees and have the following facilities: campsites with electric and potable water, bathhouse with restroom and showers, dump station and pavilion. Recreation activities featured here are: two hiking trails, picnicking and hunting within the Wildlife Management Area during Archery and Small Game seasons.
